Job Description:

The Custodian is a part-time, nonexempt position. This position is responsible for custodial services for times and days given to you by the Facilities Manager.


Compensation: DOE


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures restrooms are clean and sanitary by following prescribed procedures for sweeping, washing and/or scrubbing the restrooms. Restock all appropriate paper products, refill soap dispensers, replace sanitary disposal liners, and remove trash and waste products from all receptacles. Clean all walls, toilet/urinal partitions. Ensure all automatic faucets and dispensers are operational.
  • Clean, monitor and maintain kitchen, sinks and counters
  • Performs regular, scheduled, and directed floor and stairs maintenance by using a vacuum on carpeted areas, and mop on all hard surfaces. Stair and stairwell maintenance includes removing spider webs and wiping down handrails.
  • Removes all trash from assigned areas, including the courtyard, smoking area and parking lot elevator, by collecting trash from various trash containers and receptacles, transporting the trash to appropriate outside trash dumpsters, and emptying the trash into the dumpsters.
  • Removes all recyclable materials from assigned areas by collecting the recyclable materials from the various labeled containers, transporting the recyclable materials to appropriate outside recycling dumpsters, and emptying the recyclable materials into the dumpster.
  • Clean building furnishings including, but not limited to tables, file cabinets, mailboxes, and walls between cubicles.
  • Washes all interior and glass doors by using glass cleaners, squeegees, and/or paper wipes according to prescribed guidelines or specific directions for use of the cleaners.
  • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to Facilities Manager
  • Cleaning during agency events will result in additional hours and possible weekends.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Hours: Work schedule requires a great deal of flexibility and is dependent upon program needs and will include some early mornings, evenings and weekends.


Working Conditions: Pressures and stress of the position include dealing with crisis situations, meeting deadlines and supporting a wide variety of participant and staff needs. Work is performed in a highly visible, busy environment, with a large volume of public contact and disruptions.
